1. When are visiting hours?

Inmate whose last name begins with A through K

Tuesdays

  • 8:00 AM to 11:00 AM
  • 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM

There are no visiting hours on Sundays.

Inmate whose last name begins with L through Z

Wednesdays

  • 8:00 AM to 11:00 AM
  • 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM

There are no visiting hours on Sundays.

3. When can I leave money?

Funds for deposit into an inmate's commissary account can be made at anytime using the jail lobby kiosk. Cash or credit cards are accepted. There is a $3.00 service charge for each trasaction.

4. When can I post money for bond?

Bond must be posted in the form of a money order. Any bond over the amount of $5,000.00 must be posted at the court of jurisdiction. The money order should be made payable to the inmate. The purchaser's or remitter's information must be included on the money order. Cash, checks or credit cards will not be accepted. Any money order that has been altered, damaged or may have questionable validity will not be accepted. Money orders issued from foreign banks will not be accepted.

5. What do I do if my phone won't allow collect calls from the jail?

6. How do I put a block on my phone to stop calls from the Erie County Jail?

Call 1-800-844-6591 to block phone calls from the Erie County Jail (they need not come to the jail).

7. What are the requirements for visitation?

In order to visit an inmate you must be listed on the inmate's visiting list, present a government issued I.D. and be over the age of 18.

Those under 18 years of age must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian.

You cannot visit if a Temporary Protection or Civil Protection Order between the inmate and visitor exists.

Only 3 visitors (children included) are allowed for each visitation period.

8. Do you take messages for the inmates?

No messages are taken.

9. What items can be taken to prison?

Current Ohio Department of Corrections rules do not allow any personal property to be taken to prison. This includes cash, checks, clothing, hygiene items, documents, photographs, tobacco products, ect. Any personal property left behind at the Erie County Jail by an inmate must be picked up within 14 days.

10. Can I receive property from a person who has been arrested?

The only items that may be released from an inmate's property will be keys, identifiable credit cards and legal documents.

Money, clothing, jewelry, and cell phones will not be released. This property will be returned when the inmate is released.

All items an inmate is booked in with is considered his/her property. The inmate must agree to release the property.

11. What can be sent through the mail?

Only letters or money orders. Inmates are not allowed to receive: photographs (including photographs printed on stationary) books, envelopes or stamps. Any item deemed to be contraband will be confiscated.

12. How do I apply for a position with the Erie County Sheriff's department?

To obtain information regarding employment opportunities at the Erie County Sheriff's Office, please contact the Erie County Department of Human Resources at (419) 627-7678.

Employment opportunities are posted at various locations throughout Erie County and can be viewed at the Human Resources Office located at 2900 Columbus Avenue, Second Floor, Sandusky OH 44870.
