Our Mission

The Erie County Engineer's Office is dedicated to the care and maintenance of Erie County's system of roads and bridges and constantly provides the highest possible level of service towards the people of Erie County. To that end we commit our knowledge, our efforts, and our resources.

What We Do

The Erie County Engineer's Office maintains county roads, bridges and public drainage systems in the unincorporated parts of Erie County, Ohio. The Engineer's Office also provides engineering services for the nine townships of Erie County.

Erie County Engineer John "Jack" D. Farschman, P.E., P.S., is currently serving his fifth term as county engineer. Through 2014, under Jack's leadership, the Engineer's Office has replaced and reconstructed 65 of Erie County's 136 bridges and initiated over 437 miles of resurfacing, widening, and seal coat work on the county road system. Jack is a graduate of Ohio Northern University with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil Engineering.

Perkins Township – The Erie County Engineer’s Office, in conjunction with federal transportation funding provided by
the Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT), is proposing a complete bridge replacement of Columbus Ave.
bridge P-209 over Pipe Creek, between Bell Ave. and King Ave., in Perkins Township.

The bridge replacement will require a full closure of Columbus Ave. Detour route for northbound traffic will be Strub
Rd. east to US 250 north to Perkins Ave. west, and the reverse for southbound traffic. It is preliminarily anticipated
the detour will last for approximately 120 days. Proposed work for the replacement will require new right?of?way.
Construction is anticipated to take place in 2019.

The environmental review, consultation, and other actions required by applicable Federal environmental laws for this
project are being, or have been, carried out by the Ohio Department of Transportation pursuant to 23 U.S.C. 327 and
a Memorandum of Understanding dated December 11, 2015, and executed by FHWA and ODOT.
