SALARY: $18.05/hr.; $18.80/hr. @ probation Plus shift differential if applicable Description of the Job: Under general supervision, is responsible for assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating the care of a group of residents. Supervise other nursing personnel on an assigned shift. Perform other related duties as required. [PAGE] Essential Functions to be Performed: • Assess the nursing care needs of residents by analyzing information from records; charts; interviews with the resident, family or friends, medical personnel or supervisor; care conferences; and from personal observations made on rounds. • Supervise other nursing personnel in the performance of patient care; assign duties. Provide guidance and assistance; may orient and train; evaluate performance and recommends discipline. • Perform direct nursing care for residents; assist with examinations and medical treatments; analyze residents conditions; dispense or oversee the dispensing of prescribed drugs; administer medications and treatments such as skin care, tube feedings, catheterizing, changing sterile dressings, etc; take and interpret vital signs; give enemas; give immunizations; observe changes in condition. • Oversee and may perform the daily charting of patients conditions and activities; establish priorities for nursing care. • Recognize and combine signs and symptoms to make subjective judgements about patient needs. • Identify patient needs and formulate a nursing care plan. • Implement care plans which include preventive and rehabilitative procedures with the cooperation of other nursing personnel. • Evaluate and update nursing care plans to meet the changing needs of patients; establish long-range goals. • Communicate with the Director of Nursing Services, RN Floor Supervisor and/or the next shift concerning any resident who needs special attention or care. • Anticipate patient care problems based on information gained. • Perform emergency care and first aid. • Requisition supplies, count drugs, supervise the use and care of equipment; notify proper personnel when equipment needs repair or replacement. • Make recommendations when requested concerning policies, procedures, staffing patterns and staffing needs; serve on various in-house committees. • Attend in-service and educational seminars to further nursing knowledge or skills. • Make necessary notifications and arrangements in cases of death. • Assist in making arrangements to transfer patients to other facilities when necessary. • Oversee Housekeeping Aides duties, in their cluster, and report to the Housekeeping Supervisor. • Perform other related duties as required.
