Sheriff Paul Sigsworth was appointed as the interim Erie County Sheriff in June, 2012 by the Erie County Democratic Central Committee to fill the unexpired term of Retired Sheriff Terry Lyons.

Sheriff Sigsworth has been employed by the Erie County Sheriff’s Office for his entire law enforcement career. Originally appointed as a part-time deputy sheriff in 1983, Sheriff Sigsworth served as a dispatcher, jail deputy, and patrol deputy. Sheriff Sigsworth was appointed as a full-time deputy in 1985 and served as a patrol deputy and detective until 1994, when he was promoted to the position of Detective Sergeant. Sheriff Sigsworth served in that capacity until 2001, when he was promoted to Operations Captain. In that role, Sheriff Sigsworth supervised the Patrol, Communications, and Detective Divisions of the Sheriff’s Office. Sheriff Sigsworth served in that capacity until his appointment to the Office of Sheriff.

Sheriff Sigsworth has attended numerous law enforcement education training sessions and seminars and is a graduate of the 216th Session of the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s National Academy.
