Ever wonder how the cost of water is determined? There are a couple of factors that must be considered - both the cost to buy the water from the cities of Sandusky, Huron and Vermilion, and distribute it to Erie County water customers. Water rates generate revenue to pay for the cost of purchasing water from Sandusky, Huron, and Vermilion, employee wages and benefits, operation and maintenance expenses, capital improvements, equipment purchases, debt service payments, etc.
The charges for water are based upon water consumption. The monthly water rates effective with the bills due on or about June 17, 2024, and thereafter, shall be:

For the first 0 - 2 CCF (0 - 200 CF) of water used, the minimum charge applies based on customer meter size, as follows:

The above rates are subject to automatic increases to the per CCF charge as water supply increases are received from the County's water suppliers. These increases shall be in the proportion of the cost of water from the particular supplier to the cost from all suppliers.
Penstocks
The charge for the bulk sale of water through County owned coin-operated dispensers (penstocks) shall be at a rate of $0.25 per each 12 gallons dispensed effective June 1, 2024.
